About Us

Welcome to the homepage of Kennel All Trade, we appreciate your visit. We - the human part of this outfit - are Ingrid, Per Morten and our daughter Emma.

We live in a small rural village on the south west coast of Norway - halfway between the larger cities of Stavanger and Bergen.

The family

Dogs are not only our common interest, but also the reason we met more than fifteen years ago. The classic story where Per Morten was the tracking instructor, and Ingrid was the keen student. She was competing in obedience and tracking  with her first dog, a Dalmatian, at the time.

Per Mortens grew up on a farm and his background in dogs started in the Norwegian army, where he had patrol- and drug detection dogs.
He also participated in two UN contingencies in Lebanon during the late 80s.

When he returned home he started working offshore on oil installations, as well as buying his first GSD from Kennel Uranius.

"Asko" as he was called went on to become both a military patrol- and rescuedog. If anybody had told him then that he would end up with a Border Collie, he would have had thought them crazy!

Ingrid was born with a love for animals, but a hectic life of travels both with her family and later on by herself, prevented her from doing anything about it.
Her youth was mainly spend travelling and getting an education. One year as an exchange student in Australia, two years in Italy finishing the IB diploma at the United World College of the Adriatic, and finally getting a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford, England. It was here Ingrid met cardigans for the first time, as the librarian at the neighbouring college Trinity brought some of hers to work now and again.

After some time together we both wanted a smaller dog, and the memory of those clownlike  dogs from Oxford returned.
That is how we ended up driving to Sweden for our "Vena". Our first impression was mixed - Per Morten had an older bitch attached to his leg while Ingrid was looking at a yard full of strange looking puppies thinking "am I sure I want one of these?"

But Vena became a true "heart dog" that posessed a once in a lifetime character, and did well in the show ring to complete the package. She was also a great tracking and obedience dog - a true versatile corgi!

Asko and Vena were our  companions travelling to trials, shows and clinics - even our honeymoon was spent at a SAR course!
Because of them we met some lovely people, many of which later became our close friends.

A lot has happened since then. After working in an office environment for a few years, Ingrid had to change careers because of epoxy allergy. We ended up buying Per Mortens home farm, and Ingrid had a drastic career change to full time sheepfarmer. Because of this we started taking an interest in Border Collies, mainly as sheepdogs.
In 2002 we bought Ingrids home farm as well, and have spent the last years turning it from producing christmas trees to a sheep farm. At the same time Per Morten returned to college, and finished his degree in structural engeneering autumn 2007.

In February 2008 we finally finished our new sheep shed, and plan to keep around 2-300 ewes. December 2008 came the latest addition, 9 Full French pedigree Limousine heifers. Our dream is to develop this into a 25-30 cow breeding herd.

We have been lucky to have our sheep at summer pastures in the high mountains, and spend much of our summers there with our dogs. This is a privilege - being able to spend days hiking and pretending its work! And last but not least working with our dogs for days at a time, and watching the wonderful job that they do.

Being able to work and live with animals is a  privilege we both are very grateful for, and ideally we would like to both work from home.
But Per Morten is also happy working as an engineer on the oil installations off-shore in the North Sea.

We both try and engage ourselves in organizations that are relevant to what we do both at work and in our spare time. Ingrid has been the vice chair of the regional farmers association and the sheep and goat farmers association.

Per Morten is on the board of the regional humanist society and is also  working for the Norwegian Enigineerers Union.

On our many travels with our dogs we have been lucky to meet great dogtrainers - one should always seeek out the best to learn from! Many of them have accepted invitations to hold clinics for our local all-breeds dog club and some have become close friends.

Gro Sundell has been a great inspiration in obedience, as have Jenny Damm in agility and Roar Hansen in tracking. We have also had the great privilege of hosting sheepdog clinics with both Bobby Dalziel and Torbjørn Jaran Knive.

Our prefix "All Trade" was registered in 1996, and the first litter was born the following year. This was our first Border Collie litter which proved to be a great success - including many solid workers, a SAR dog and a European & World Obedience Champion. Some might think things have gone downhill since then :-)

But we did not rest on our laurels and our first cardigan litter was born the following year. We have bred many good dogs and some not so good. Our learning curve is still steep and we hope it stays that way!

Our main aim as breeders has always been to produce dogs that can enrich the lives of their owners. So temperament and health has had always had first priority.
Having said that - our dream is to produce great workers and beautiful showdogs.

Apart from working with our own dogs, we also try to be active in the organized world of dogs.

Per Morten has just retired from chairing our local allbreeds club for many years, and is a NKK accredited instructor

Ingrid is a Kennel Club accredited obedience and herding instructor, and holds regular clinics. She also is an authorized ringsteward.

She is passed to judge both the Corgi breeds, Collies and Shetland Sheepdogs by the Norwegian Kennel Club and have student judge status in five other breeds in the herding group.

She has also been chairman of the Norwegian Corgi Club.
